Interesting 2in10. I'm going to have to test my refractometer at the various temperatures to see if I get a different reading like that. I thought my refractometer compensates for temperature differences though.

It doesn't. A salinity of 1.026 at 80* F. is not going to be 1.026 at 76* F., using the same quantity of salt.

yeah 2 i meant SG.. I have been lacking sleep from this week with school, but its about to be Mardi Gras break for us and my birthday is next weekend..Cant Wait..

yea both my tanks are at 1.026 SG at 79degrees..or 35 ppt

so it sounds like most people are keeping it a little lower to make up for evaporation..i dont have an ato but i do top off a little twice a day, i dont mind and takes 2 seconds...

another question to think about, so on an average tank(not packed to death with corals) would us that are running our tanks at 1.026 have more elements that we replenish with water changes and could go longer between water changes, if you didnt have to do water changes to reduce large nitrates or something like that..idk just woke up so brain doesnt wanna work if this doesnt make sense

35-36ppt, but I try to stay closer to 35ppt.

    NSW is 34-36ppt.

    Yes it should smackrock.

Sean that is what the tenperature compensation means.

Sorry, but i have no clue what you are trying to ask. hahaha.

As for water changes, I think daily water changes of 1.5g would be better on my 75g(55g sump) reef than weekly 10% changes. So much smaller, more often changes, thus effecting less of the system all at once.

2in10 if you read into comments from that post you referred to, others have tried what I'm going to do with a Refractometer that compensates for temperature and they could not get a different reading out of it however they do note that calibration is key. I haven't calibrated mine in about 2 months, so I'll try it first without calibrating then after. I'm going to try to test 50º, 70º, and 90º and see what I get.

Always fun to try a new experiment =D

    1.024 / 1.025 @ 78
I was keeping it @ 1.026 but found it hard to keep it there due to winter evaporation rate.
I also use the refractometer for best results :)
