Doesn't salinity PPM and Specific Gravity measure the same thing? Just a different way of reporting it. On a refractometer they are on either side of the measurement.

Anyways, I typically keep mine sitting somewhere between 1.023 and 1.025. Sometimes I get lazy with the ATO during the winter (losing almost 2 gallons a day!) so if my sump starts to lose a little water after the reservoir is down, my SG still stays at or below 1.025. Considering I only have fish, inverts, and zoas, not too concerned that little fluctuation.

btw, why does spellcheck think refractometer isn't a word lol.

Is your refractometer really that accurate?

i keep mine at 1.025 only b/c i typically slack a little everyday on adding water, so by the time i do it, i lose a gallon a day in evaporation, so if i got 2 days, without adding, i have a salinity of 1.026

Inverts do better in salinity/specific gravity close to what they live in in the sea. No real benefit from lower except spending a little less $ on salt.
