I meant the first day or two after death. Also death and decay usually happen on the same day with nems.Mature tank or not you will still have a spike in ammonia and or nitrite.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
It may just had have difficulty during acclimation and from shipping. Anemone are prone to bacterial infections that start within the gut, this is especially true if feeding too often and too large of pieces. What ever food is in the gut begins to decay, causing both a bacterial infection and a detectable ammonia level. The anemone may appear slightly stressed initially but usually anemone is died within a day or two. While you may not notice the internal decay it is still producing ammonia at a higher rate than the tank can handle.

Clown fish burrowing too far into the oral opening can stress the anemone and lead to it's demise as well, especially if these are large clown fish. A clown doing this to a stressed anemone is a bad thing.

I believe the ammonia source was from the anemone actively dying.

acclimating is important, but on your water test you should recheck because nitrite will normally go up before ammonia??? but annenomies are very picky and close up and look weird at random times and hand feeding mysis shrimp to it will help.

Ammonia will be detected before nitrite.

My nitrites always stay at 10, with 0 ammonia, so I know the annemone was causing it. I did my 9 gallon water change yesterday and flushed the annemone. My LFS told me to get rid of it after looking at my picts of it. He said it was better to go ahead and get it out before it falls apart and kills more in my tank.

If your nitrites are always 10, then your tank is far from cycled. Just sayin. :/
