I added 5 lbs of "base rock" to my 11lbs of fiji in my 29g tank about 3 weeks ago. It was dry rock, but I don't know what kind. My LFS didn't have a name for it.

I have what looks like diatoms tarting to colonize on the new rock. But The tank is almost 2 yrs old, so I don't see how there could still be silicates?

    What do you think?

I also have had 2 pacific cleaner shrimp die around the time of their last molt(2 weeks ago). I never found them back. Could these be related?

lol. I really want to know what it is.

The pictures are on my SD card & I can view them on my camera...when I open the file(DCIM) for the SD car on the computer, I can see basically every other picture except the few I am looking for.

You never really get rid of diatoms. That greenish/brown film that you clean off of your aquarium glass on a regular basis are dead diatoms. Once your base rock becomes more colonized, you won't notice the brown dusting that is relatively normal in every tank. If it's more than just a dusting, however, then you clearly have a problem with your water.
