They are chitons as already said.

Most if not all of the animals are chitons for sure, but it looks like you have a couple of different genera reproducing in your tank. The little white glossy one with the symmetrical pattern doesn't look to have a girdle, although I might just not be able to see it in the pic. There was a similar one that showed up on one of the forums a few years ago that I figured was a chiton, but it got identified as something else (I forget what, but I believe it was a pod of some sort). That's the only one that I can't say for sure is a chiton. They aren't a pest, although you're the first person I've ever seen who had so many.

    Cheers,

    Don

If he flipped them over and they looked like a snail underneath, it's not a pod.

I have a few of the white ones too one of them is reallly big and they leave the little shells too in the sand with a little red in them, I like them I never see them in the day and at night they crawl on the glass, I asked the pet store if I could have some thats how I got them :) I think they are cool lookin.

Agree now. Plus when I heard "scatter", I was thinking a few seconds, not 10 minutes. Pods are the most common thing I can think of which literally scatter seconds after a light comes on.
