What is this on the trumpet coral?

    The trumpet coral in the photo had been doing well since its addition but a few weeks ago slowly started to curl and shrink. I noticed a slimy purple coating around it's base seemed to be spreading.

    Is this the problem? If so - how to deal with it? I learned from aptasia that simply scraping it off could be a bad choice.

    Sorry for all the questions but I am new to the hobby. Hope others benefit from them as well.[​IMG]

    What is the best way to remove it? Scrape it off?

    Exposure to air will kill it but so will it your trumpet. I never knew they could bother a coral. Usually coral Vs. Sponge coral always wins. But yes you could scrape it off if you really wanted to, wait for others to chim in
