What is this on my snail?

    You're right, it does look like it, only darker :confused:

    The snail either has a montipora capricornis like grass had suggested, or it is a porites coral which oddly enough someone else a while back also had on there snails shell. I would lean more towards porites but it is kind of hard to tell at this point.

    i think thats awesome your snail has a coral on is back, thats pretty sweet.

    Now I'm at a loss as to what to do. Should I let the snail roam around the tank with it or should I try to take the coral off and place it?

    I say leave it. More than likely the snail stole a shell that had been sitting next to the coral. IMO if you try to remove it you risk damaging it. Who knows? Maybe the coral will like migration.
