What is this Algae?

    It's kind of like red slime, but it's brown, really stringy and hairy like, some strands are pretty long, its mostly around these GSP's and they don't seem to like it to much.
    Right now there is no measurable Nitrates or Phosphates.

    How long has the tank been setup? Looks like some type of cyano/protein bloom.

    possible bubble algae in the second and third pic it looks like....not sure about the first, they look different to me....

    its been set up for about 8 months now, no there is no bubble algae, I know that stuff, I got about 3 of them on another rock, this stuff looks like dirty old hair.

    I see what your talking about, those are unopen GSP! where that stuff was growing the polyps are not opening.

    Cynobacteria comes in many forms and that's what it looks like to me. Not unopened GSP.

    protein bloom? Never heard of such a thing, can you explain?

    Its almost like a bacteria bloom but slimy like diatoms except clearer.

    will saying it is cyano! I looked at some of the causes, I been using the same water for top offs since I started, which is store bought, so no change in water. My lights I bought in June, and last test should no levels of Phosphates or Nitrates and I really don't know what caused my sudden growth, only 3 fish so not to much fish pooh and I do rinse their food, which I feed less than I should.

    I have the same issue. My corals also don't like it very much. They won't open and it had caused part of my lobo to recede a little.
