I just set this tank up Friday. After the water cleared I noticed this white thing, it's about 1' long and it's moved about 1/2" since Friday. Should I be concerned? Also ammonia today is 1.5, so I'm wondering if the ammonia might kill.

I have never seen one of those before. It almost looks like a cucumber but not 100% certain.

If you are concerned, remove it.

Shortly after I posted that picture I took my dogs for a walk, when I got back it had vanished.

I wouldn't worry too much. Ammonia will probably kill it and it will become another food source for the nitrifying bacteria during the cycle.

is that uncured rock? if so, you'll probably find a lot of various critters on it as you go through your cycle.

Yes it is and I found a bunch of worms of various sizes as I was putting the rock in the tank, any worms that fell out in my rinse bucket did not make it to the tank. I haven't seen anything else yet but the tank has only been up 4 days.

it also is quite stinky as well :) my very first reef I started with uncured rock - it was really cool to see such a variety of life on it
