    Just found this thread. Amazing.

It's neat proving things - here a while back Steve proved that high Mg (1700-1800) will make Calcium tests unreliable as the test doesn't mix correctly. I had those results using an API and a Salifert test kit and Steve was able to reproduce the results using Salifert.

    Very cool, subscribed.

    Thank you Shackman

    Thanks Peredhil

    positive feedback from all concerned
motivated me into bringing forward the water change
so 5 fresh gallons of saltwater into the DT at lunch time
and 5 gallons of used slightly dirty water now in the 5 gallon

Reef Fusion parts 1 and 2 will be added from today

current parameters of that 5 gallon are

PH - 8.2 - 8.4 (Red Sea and its somewhere between those numbers)
Mag - 1410 - 1440 ( Mag additions are normally done Saturdays hence its lower this time
Calcium - 420 ppm (Doser was off for 2 days whilst allowing DKH to come down)
DKH - 8.0 ( reduced from 8.6 - 2 weeks ago on DT as per above)

Reef Fusion part 1 and 2 will be added as per basic guidelines
again assuming I may dose without testing
no testing will be done between now and test completion, in order I dont deviate from the beginner dosing plan

beginners direction indicate dosing aquarium every 1 or 2 days
I will assume impatient beginner status and dose daily

both Reef Fusion 1 and Reef Fusion 2 indicate adding 1ml per 25 litres of 6 US gallons ( my tank is 5 UK gallons and thus 22.5 litres)
using a cleaned syringe from a test kit, I will dose 0.9mils of each product every day

see you in a couple of weeks

    Steve

another 8 days to go on Seachem Fusion test run.

added another product to the list of products to be tested
got the Kent Nano 2 part product
which means I will now be able to directly compare

    Seachems fusion 1 and 2
    Brightwell code A and B
    Kent Nano A and B
these 3 products all perform similar functions
so it will be interesting to see the results achieved by each of these IMO

Remember though that Steve isn't testing the unknowns. *One of* the problems with purple up is that we don't know what's in it.

You may be killing your tank with iodide for all we know...

I would recommend against using purple up at all and especially once a day.

If you are after coralline, focus on your Mg levels. Steve's test here should help establish some good products for that.

+1 I try not to dose anything I don't test for and will not dose something if I don't know exactly what's in it. IME, you will not find experienced reefkeepers that do this and it isn't just because newbies know more than them

    Steve,

Many apologies as I have not read this entire thread beyond your initial posts. I assume you will be testing one after another and not in unison of course. They all should raise calcium and I’ll be interested in your impact on magnesium – all around a fantastic idea Steve !

Will you be performing weekly water changes? In all fairness most people do water changes and this should have an impact on your test results vs. no changes (again, sorry of this answer is somewhere in this thread that I can’t read right now). I think I read base rock – might be better to use coralline encrusted if possible, visual results of growth would be interesting (certainly with the purple up). Plus the addition of something that consumes calcium would also level the playing field in my opinion.

    Consider me subscribed Mr.Wright !!
