What coral is this?? i haven't a clue!

    Maidens Hair algae..... I've seen online gigs sell that stuff-and for a pretty penny!! Hair algae straight from Fiji!

    Could it be small kenya tree with hair algae all around it?

    Is it a pest?

    At the moment i kind of think it looks good in the tank?

    first comes the ohh ahh look at that then later comes the running and screaming.(jK).. but seriously yes hair algea is bad once it gets a foot hold in your tank it will cover everthing and it can choke out corals. IMO I would remove the hair algae the best you can now before it spreads.
    Also just take a look a some of the tanks in the algea thread concerning hair algea and you will see how bad it can become.

    looks like a kenya tree coral without enough lighting. if they get enough lighting the little polyups will open kinda like xenia

    You think that until it takes over your tank like mine, except I never thought it was pretty because I knew what it was right away. Make sure your water parameters are good, no nitrates or phosphates and it might just die itself (I had a bit introduced in one of my tanks and it died) but if you have food for it (phosphate & nitrates) it can get out of control very quickly. Be careful about trying to "pluck" it too, make sure you do this in a separate container of water, not your tank, or you will send spores everwhere!

    that ain't mermaid's hair, regular old junk hair algae, get it gone! :)
