from the reading i've done i think that t5 lights are pretty good and should be able to sustain most types of coral. i don't want to go with mh because of the heat.
i'm thinking about buying the lights below. are there any types of corals or clams that i wont be able to keep?

What size of tank do you have?

You will be able to keep anything at the top. Mid to bottom picky SPS and some clams will get a little more iffy and won't give as much growth. All softies and LPS will be easily in your grasp.

With that particular light, I would say you would be ok for softies, leathers, and some of the lower light LPS.

Odessea is not considered to be a great light. They use a cheaper version of reflector than some other companies.

If you used a 6 bulb version of say a TEK or Current USA Pro version, then I would say you could keep anything.

Unfortunately, nothing comes cheap in this hobby. Especially since light is the lifeblood of a reef.

Very good point, the cheaper reflectors might hold you back. I don't think I would use Odyssea T5's just because reflectors mean a lot with them. MH doesn't usually cause much heat issues if you use a fan blowing across the water.

that sounds ok to me. i should be fine with that selection of coral for a while. i can sell these lights and upgrade when i start working. i'll probably upgrade my tank too anyway.
i'm still a student, so this is within budget for now. i still have to factor in getting to Trinidad.
    thanks for the info.

Nothing will come close in the same price range. To get better quality you would have to put in more money for a better company.
