what is the rating of watts per gallon for for T5 lights. I know it depends on what you want to keep. so in this case I have a 30 gallon tank (36"). I have seen some fixtures that have like 156 watts and they say they are T5. if thats the case, is 156 enough for corals in a 30?

There is no watts per gallon rule with t5s

t5s have wattage based on the length of the bulb, any t5ho bulb that is long enough for your tank is fine, and yes 156 watts of t5ho is more then enough for a 30 gallon tank

I only have 3.5 wpg on my 180 of T5.... And I have SPS to just about the sandbed.. I like to say lamps more so that watts.. A good rule for lamps that have SLRs, is 1 lamp per 3" of tank width, as in front to back...
