Is the tank near a window or a source of long term light exposure?
How long do you leave the light on?
Was the tank/gravel/equipment clean? Do you have live plants in the tank?
    how often do you feed?
    The more info, the better

    Hi Swagger,
The tank, filter and heater are new. I had light on mostly every night 24/7. Tank is at corner of living room away from sunlight or any source of light. There is no gravel or plants in tank yet. I feed once a day not lot those pellets, prob like 4-5 medium pellets. ty

Ok, try to not keep lights on 24/7. It promotes algae growth. Try maybe only 8 hours a day. You may want to keep them off for a couple of days how ever as you continue to make several small water changes (so as to not shock your fish)

You can also buy a magnetic cleaner to scrub the algae off the inside of the glass and you don't even have to get your hands wet.

Green water is usually from an ammonia spike... you should black the tank out for 2-3 days and then do a large water change. Or the best way to clear it would be to add a UV sterilizer to the tank.
