I was wondering if I need a kit to test the water? Is it really worth getting?

Well it isn't but about 99.9% of saltwater hobbyists use them. if ur gonna keep corals then get one that tests for ph alkalinity calcium and magnesium. If it's just fish only or fish only with live rock then get one for ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate for the cycle. After that just do water changes weekly or twice a week and you won't really need a test kit
