Water Shimmer Effect Reduction

    So I just tried my new LED kit on my tank and there is way to much water shimmer going on. I turned off my MP10 & redirected water flow from my pump but still its like a strobe all over my corals.. Anyone have idea?s


    I was almost thinking about using wax paper to spread the light... Would this work??

    I think that would kinda defeat the purpose! not sure what the SPF is of wax paper but guessing it's higher than you'd want!

    Ever never hard anyone complain about the shimmer being too much. haha

    I am not sure how well wax paper would work. My par30s get pretty warm.

    I wonder if you could get different optic lenses that would diffuse the light a bit.

    Currently with the cooling I have inside my hood it (heat sink) only reaches 129.2 F so I think the wax paper would be okay. The shimmer is so much its insane, you can't even look at the corals unless you want a seizure. :(

    Edit: Do you have dimming on your LED kit?

    Maybe look into window screen. It won't block light like the paper, but should cut down on some of the shimmer.
