    Hello All,

We recently added some coral frags to our system. One was the war coral pictured below. There is an area (circled in red) that looked like mucus and when that cleared it now looks bare in that spot. There is also a faint white streak across it.

New to corals - is this coral ok?

It has been in the tank about 5 days. The other fragments (trumpet and mushroom) are open and look bright and healthy.[IMG]

We've asked the store and they said this is normal. Just looking for objective advice.

    Thank you.

Its hard to tell from the picture. It looks like it may have been stung by another coral. You can try dipping it if you haven't already.Keep your eye on it.

Will test Calcium and Alk, but don't have a test kit yet for mag.

Purchased Reef Code A and B Calcium and Alkalinity products.

    KH is 8.6
    Ca is 400

Brand new to this whole dosing process.
    Any advice welcome.

    Thank you for your responses!

Get a Mag. test kit.Keeping it at the proper level is very important.

    Thank you.

Have rechecked the calcium (honestly have trouble determining when the color change is completed - looking for "clear blue" but light shades of purple look blue to me.) I think it is actually ok at 8.4.

Will get another test kit and keep checking every few days until some pattern arises.

Still using the same fixture. Can't return it. Too much invested to get another now.

The coral is near the top, but to the back of the tank (not directly under lights.)

Thank you for the link. Will check it out. So much to learn!

We have moved the coral to the middle of the tank to see if it helps.[IMG]

Move the coral to the bottom. It is still showing stress. They dont need very much light. The area that you're pointing to looks like it receded before you got it, there is coralline growing in that area. It should look a little puffier when the lights are out, or in low light. Have you checked it at night?
