    Press Release:

EcoTech Marine, the company that revolutionized coral aquarium
propeller pumps with the VorTech MP40w, previewed its newest pump,
created for smaller reef aquariums, at Marine Aquarium Expo (MAX) on
April 5th in Costa Mesa, CA.

The VorTech MP20, available this summer, is ideally suited for
aquariums smaller than 70 gallons. With its patent pending VorTech
technology, the MP20 produces unmatched broad yet gentle flow while
placing the motor outside the tank—preserving the beauty of your
aquarium and enhancing the health of your tank’s ecosystem. With all
the electrical components outside the aquarium and a variety of easy-
to-program modes, the VorTech is the safest, most versatile pump on
    the market.

“The MP20 will enable an entirely new segment of the market to
experience the technological superiority of the Vortech system,” says
Tim Marks, EcoTech director of production. “The attendees at MAX were
psyched to learn about the MP20. They were attracted to our booth by
the innovative design of the VorTech and blown away by its
    capabilities.”

While final specifications are subject to change, operational modes
    for the MP20 include:

    · Feed Mode: Slows down your pump for 10 minutes to allow you to
    feed your aquarium.

    · Constant Speed Mode: The pump runs at a constant speed you set
based on your aquarium’s specific needs.

    · Reef crest Mode: Simulate the high-energy conditions of a
    natural reef crest environment.

    · Lagoon Mode: Simulate a calmer, lagoon reef environment.

    · Optional Battery Backup: Keeps the circulation going during
power failure for up to 30 hours.

    MP20 specifications include:

    · Tank Size: 20 to 70 gallons

    · Dimensions:

o Wet Side: 3” diameter by 2.25” long

o Dry Side: 3” diameter by 2.25” long

    · Flow: 500 to 2,000 gallons per hour

    · Power consumption: 6 to 18 watts

    · Aquarium Wall Thickness: 3/16” to 3/4”

    · General operating Temperature: 20-30º C

    · Maximum Motor Temperature: 50-60º C

    · Clearance needed behind aquarium: 3”

The MP20 can be upgraded to the MP40w by purchasing a special upgrade
kit — providing wireless communication between pumps and even more
    functionality and flow.

Sorry I don't have a price on this pump, I will inquire. Looks cool though.

I saw a pre-order price on the MP20 of $295 in one online store.

For the price and the odds of me getting a bigger tank down the road, im saving for the mp40w. I like the mp20 but price is still up there and knowing me ill end up wanting the upgrade and spending 400 in the end ne way.

Matt, do you have much experience with the VorTech pumps? Where is the ideal placement?

On their website it says you can put them on the side or back of the tank...on most of the youtube videos they have them on the side.

    Is the side ideal?

I would love to get rid of the 3 noise max-jets in my tank :)

I don't have any experience with these pumps Ryan, sorry. If you start a new thread in the filter/pumps board with the size of your tank, we can take it from there.
