So I came across this frag today and the dealer said it was Japanese and started with and "O", but did not know the full name. It seems the first string had the weekend off ;D He said they have had it about 10 days and it has been doing well with PC lighting and a high flow. I got a good price so I decided to buy it, can anyone identify this species?

What ever it is, it's a nice coral. Looks like it will have to be fed.

Yea that looks like a Dendrophyllia coccinea, or firecracker coral / Sun Coral. Those corals are supposed to be placed in low-moderate flow areas with dim lights. Most people place them under overhangs or shaded areas in rock work. They also need to be fed. Hand feed each polyp brine shrimp or Mysis when the polyps are extended. Good Luck!!

Yup, that is a dendro. They are non-photosynthetic and require target feedings to survive. Awesome that you got a good price on it, they can be spendy.

EDIT: I would move it to a location with slightly slower flow and see how it does, they can sometimes have issues if water movement is too high.

+1 dendro I just got my first one recently, it loves to eat. I've been feeding it almost every day (5-6 times a week) at least until I'm confident it's doing OK. I don't think you need to feed them quite that much but I've read that feeding them regularly will encourage more growth and I'd like to have more than a single polyp with the 2 little baby polyps I have now.
