I have a green tipped torch coral that I have have for well over 6 months in my 55 gallon. It is normally a brown color but now is turning kinda white. I moved it higher in the tank, noticed this so moved it lower. I have power compacts so I didnt think that it would bleach out at 5.5 watts per gallon, was I wrong?

watch the torch long time ago i had one in a 55 it started looking bad i held off doing anything to see if it would pull threw. it made my whole tank sick about lost everything. i ended up getting it out and do a number of water changes and you could tell by the smell of the water. after that ive always had a sick tank ready. dont mean to scare you but this did happen to me good luck

Anyone have any other ideas why my torch coral would be turning white?

how old are your bulbs? as bulbs get older they not only lose "light" they also lose PAR, especially pc bulbs. If he is actually turning white he is purging his zooxanthellae.

Bulbs are less than a year old! Why would it be purging?

Any type of stressor can cause a coral to expell their zooxanthellae.

I wouldn't worry too much. If your PC bulbs are getting close to a year old, your probably due to change them. After you change them, barring all water params are in check, just monitor your torch. I've had issues with a frogspawn bleaching out.... then eventually 3 months later the color slowly returned and is now healthy to this day. Not sure what caused it, but most coral can regain it's zooxanthellae, and in return, regain its color.
