Too much light for montis?

    I read in a thread somewhere (can't remember where) that if a digitata and a spongodes encrust much more than they branch, it's a sign that you have too much light. Anyone else ran into that?

    Here's some pics of the montis and a BN that tends to grow "flat". The BN is also turning white. No tissue loss yet.

    Can't say I've ever heard that. Excess light can cause bleaching, but flow usually has a greater effect on the branching pattern. SPS corals require strong, random flow. Judging from the growth, it appears that your powerhead is pointed directly at the BN.

    My guess is that they are still establishing a base, which will follow with vertical growth.

    That digitata does look a little bit light in color but that could be the camera. With this being said, they are going to have to put a base down before you will get verticle growth.
