I have 4 corals (green birdsnest, orange monti cap, gsp, some zoas) under three 6500K compact flourescent bulbs. I am aware that under this color temperature, they will brown out. I have had them for about a month and am going to be getting my LEDs next week some time. So, slowly, I thought they had been browning out a bit (loss of color intensity on zoox algae). This was on the main area of the monti cap, and then also along the growth tips a bit. I was watching, but hoping it was just browning and it would be solved once I got my LEDs. then a few days ago, I notices some loss of color in the polyps in my birdsnest and branches apear to be bleaching too. Today I woke up and noticed a good sized white spot on the monti. I thought maybe it was RTN. So, do I just need to lower my coral in the tank, or is there some other problem?

    These photos were taken today.

I will test my water parameters in a bit.

RTN if you can see no polyps or flesh in the white area. A dip in iodine, CoralRx or ReVive might help stop if it is RTN. If no luck in stopping you will want to frag the bad area out. Go back 1/4" into the good areas and then dip.

They are browned out pretty bad.

They bare patch should be of some concern. It could be a bacterial infection brought on by decaying flesh. STN.

I would say the issue is primarily lighting.

Ugh. :( They have browned quite a bit in the time I have had them.

There are no polyps in the white area on the monti, but there does appear to be flesh. I didn't get the iodine yet so I could dip my corals. Wasn't able to get that stuff for Christmas. Bone cutters...I don't have any new ones... :(

What about the birdsnest? I'll see if I can get a better picture of it.

Tincture of iodine works great for a dip and it very cheap at Walgreen's of any drug store. Use 15 to 20 drop in a quart of tank water. Dip for 10 minutes and rinse thoroughly in another quart of tank water. Discard both quarts.

Ok, I got a 2oz bottle of Iodide Tincture. I will do the dip after a while. I also got some bone cutters, incase of the unfortunate event of fragging.
