the tip of one branch on my valida colony has turned white. it has a very small amount of slime around the area but nothing major. Does anyone know what this is?
It does not look like any stn or rtn that i have seen before and is not really progressing down the branch so i can almost rule that out...

the texture of the area looks to resemble a sponge...

I've had something similar happen to my montis, a white spot would appear on the tip or body. I think it was just something picking at it, it regrew in a few days. If it doesn't appear to be healing, I would cut off that tip.

I would suggest just cutting the tip off as well, back a little past the good tissue so none of that white weird spongey stuff spreads.

Had that happen to my Miami orchid... I would suggest just cutting it off before anything else might happen.. It should grow back once you clip it.

I would take that tip, and glue the spongey part to a frag plug to see what happens.

At worst, the coral will be a goner , and at best, you have a frag then:)

    im confused...
you mean glue the sponge area to the plug and let the valida grow the other direction? or mean just clip it and glue as normal and see what comes of the sponge area

That's a pretty good idea. I've had some birdsnest that started to look spongy and I figured it was due to flow. I increased flow and the "sponge" disappeared. I wonder now if it was the birdsnest, or something else...
