Thinking of buying a Maxima

    My friend is selling me a Purple Maxima Clam for $50, Its about 3-4 inches.
    Except it has a hole in it :confused: Is that normal, I never had a clam before.

    a hole on it where? if its in the middle part of the clam, thats normal . plus there should be a spout. ones intake , the others expelling what it tok in.

    They have a hole in them. It is used to vent the water through the clam. If you could get a pic of it, it would help to see if it is a normal hole.

    the hole or what looks like the clam is torn is the intake.

    Oh ok I guess its fine then. How would you know when a clam is healthy or has a disease?

    If it responds well to light, meaning it closed quickly when you put your hand over it to block the light, is a usual indication of good health. Also, you can check for any pyrimidal snails around the base, although I doubt there would be any if it's been in your friend's tank for a while. Also, just look at it. Does it look healthy? Bright color, the mantle isn't droopy, responds to light etc.

    Yeah it does close when he puts his hand in, And pyrimidal snails what do these look like? Also yes it is very bright it looks nice! He is still thinking about selling it to me because he likes it :ohwe:

    Also droopy mantle I don't know what this looks like either, Sorry never had a clam.
