    This whole time I've been using table salt, no wonder my corals won't grow!

    I know this question (and the replies to it) were posted in jest, but for any newbie that finds this thread, the answer is absolutely not. Sea water contains far more than just sodium chloride. What it doesn't have is the same level of iodine; that would be instantly lethal to marine organisms.
