It's late and I keep staring at this aquarium overflow from Mame. I start at the main pipe, go through down pipe, then up through L pipe and suddenly I am back at the main pipe. I repeat. I am in some crazed House of Stairs that Escher built. I want out, but I can't stop because it is hypnotic hand-blown glass.

Covey would have an answer to this. I know it. Back to the main pipe.

I'm very interested in this little device since I first saw it on reef builders. I also have no idea how it works.

Is it sorta like a Herbie overflow? Or a compact beananimal overflow? I don't get it either.

One thing I wonder... How does one clean it effectively? Glass makes me worried.

I think I get it. The center piece is the return line, which automatically primes the u-tube to restart the siphon in case of a power outage or other events that would break the siphon. Then the output tube is open on top... To prime the siphon? It's so weird.

Probably boil it or soak in vinegar?

Nice - I was curious about that but hadn't done the conversion. Yikes! Covey's is cheaper but not nearly as sleek. I guess sleek is expensive. :)

That is very elegant and beautiful. It would be cool to be able to watch my stupid snails get sucked into my sump too.

It's nothing more than a glass version of a diy pvc overflow. I bet that float sensor is a shut off for your pump to keep the tank from flooding when the OF fails.
