Did you see this? Incredible. A nearly 5 foot nurse shark caught on a fisherman's line becomes the unintended bait for a monster goliath grouper that takes it in one bite. Repeat: A nearly 5 foot shark in one bite! One would think if a goliath grouper could take out a shark they would be the kings of all they survey, but they themselves have been fished to near extinction earning protected status. The goliaths are on the rebound in south west Florida where remaining mangroves protect their young. But pressure is mounting to repeal their protection. That would be unfortunate for fish that can grow nearly 8 feet long, weigh 680 pounds and eat a sizable shark... in one bite.

There is another video very similar to this, the goliath grouper comes out of nowhere and eats their shark.

That's no nurse shark though. lol

Sad to think people reported catching some in the 800lbs range, now the average size is around 200lbs.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Yes I did, I knew there were still Godzilla sized groupers out there because I have seen one. I was in Catalina diving once with a friend, it was in a kelp forest, all at once the back round to the kelp moved off. You have limited vision in a mask, but all I can say was that it was like a wall moved. It's the only time I have ever hit the surface as did my friend.

Indeed that is sad. The description states 'nurse' share - what is it VA Reef? I don't know my sharks well.

Great story! That would have scared the mask off me for sure.

    Looks like a small bullshark.

FWIW here is a typical nurse shark:

    Indeed John!

@Va Reef - you are right - that sure doesn't look like a typical nurse shark.

Yup note the lack of a second dorsal, shape of the caudal and positioning of the first dorsal fin. The video uploaders were probably too shocked that their shark got eaten to pay attention :p

This happened in my home waters. I can't tell for sure what kind of shark that is but it looks like gulf water, so I'd say American Sharpnose or one of their kin. Since they became protected, big Jewfish (Volkswagens) are making a strong comeback on wrecks and bottom structure. These guys are probably chumming on a wreck. This happens a lot when fishing wrecks, it's just cool see that happen to a shark on camera.
