I can hear the Clown say to the tang, "Look at those freshies over there...they are such losers, and those brackies...they are just salty wannabe's."

Most of us started out at some point with freshwater and got bored of it. I went from freshwater to brackish to saltwater FOWLR to Reef.

If you did the freshwater thing in the past, sounds like a lot of wasted $$ you could invest in your reef tank....unless $$ is not a problem.

I've seen side-by-side freshwater/reef tank setups....to be honest, I don't remember paying any attention to the freshwater tank.

It's a lot of stuff to buy and maintain, but it's your great idea and if you like freshwater and brackish don't let any of us talk you out of it, go for it if you're serious.

How about a cube saltwater tank inside of a shallow square freshwater. Neon tetras and plants in freshwater tank and reef in saltwater tank.

split the tank long wise so the back part will be a reef and have 2 or 3 really nice fish and the front will be discus and neons so it looks vary active. also use a sand thats close to the sw sand in looks in the FW side.

sounds more complicated than three different tanks and that always means more problems. why not just one sweet reef haha. do wat you want but it might set you back some money to realize it was easier to do three different tanks
