It could possibly stress them out..81 is not SUPER high but its a risky temp..my 14g biocube runs at 75.6 almost all day and night.

OKay..i have the same exact heater..and like i said it stays at around 75.6 all day...and about 75.5 at night...maybe a bit lower...but honestly, i would check your pump out...possibly could be a bad one and could be heating up..

But also, as i said about the 72w over it..not a good idea of pic with an enclosed system..I would take it out and either put back the reg 48w route or get extra fans...I think that is your main problem.

ok thanks! ive been considering switching to LED, but ive never had an issue with temp like this. This is kind of a strecth but i was using a piece of plexi to keep snails outta the back...is it possible that that was trapping heat?

There are two vents in the back of the biocube, behind the fans...is that it?

Or was it over the where the main chambers were?

Oh...it could possibly..but honestly i wouldnt worry too much about that..But who knows it could, you might want to take it out for a few days and see if it changes..

    Also
If you have power heads in the tank, make sure they are still running properly. If they get a little jammed up the friction of an improperly spinning impeller will generate friction heat.

    Just 2 cents
