Has anyone used unfinished kitchen cabinets from Lowes or Home depot to make a stand? Would think they would hold the weight and after all the time spent building a stand would end up just as cheap. Let me know what you think.

I'm sure you can add supports! But it might not be fit as nicely as a stand made from scratch.

IMO it wouldn't be worth your money.. The support wouldn't be there, I'd start right from scratch if I had a choice. If there is one thing not to do in this hobby is to cut corners. If you were to spend a couple thousand on a system you don't want to come home and find it in a heap.

Yeah, I've never seen any that looked strong enough for a tank (besides like a 3 gallon). It would be harder to strengthen one than just make it right from the beginning.

it really depends on the size of the tank I could see it but not on a tank over 30 gallons
