Building a tank stand for my 55 gallon. Made it big enough and strong enough to hold up to a 150 gallon tank. Used 2x4's and 2x6's with 3" deck screws. Cost around $35 so far. Still planning on putting a bottom shelf in to hold the sump. Going to add a top where the tank will sit directly, going to close in the sides and build doors in the front. I'm going to leave the back open so I can run the overflow and return lines. I'll keep posting updated pics as the stand comes along. Let me know what ya'll think and any cool ideas that include into the build would be awesome.

Looks like your off to a great looking stand!
Now that the dry run is done take it all apart and glue the pieces together as you reassemble it and make sure your using galvinized deck screws that wont rust away in a year if you happen to spill salt water on them.
Also, before you secure a top on it, make sure it's completely level.

I'll be following along to see the final product.
    Great job so far :jester:

It's been a little while but here is how the tank stand is coming along. looks like instead of dealing with an overflow and the possibility of it breaking siphon and flooding my fiance's apartment and also the odd shape of a 55 gallon I am just going to buy a 90gallon to do this tank with. Still have to finish the paint job on the stand. Fiance is doing her own reef inspired art work. Also I'm placing a piece of rubber mating on the top of the stand that the tank with rest directly on. Let me know what ya'll think.

New to sight but just had to say thank you agustim, I used your design on my 75 gallon and had less than $35 in it for the frame geat design.

I ended up spending right around $75, which included the hinges and door handles.
