I am setting up a 150 with a back wall that is 48” x 30”. I am thinking of painting the background on the tank. Does anyone have any advice on what to use for the background? Either a paint that works or a background that they like?

I would go with the classic look of black paint but I cant give advice on what kind should be used for this.

You can use black plasti kote spray paint on the back of your tank (on the outside) to give you a good affect, you will need to use a couple of coats to completely blacken it.

I used a small 4" roller, and some inexpensive black paint. I took a few days and gave it a coat every day until a flashlight shone on the back didn't show up from the front. I think it was about 4 coats.

i would get a can of shiney black paint and spay multiple coats on it, this will get the most even look after 3-4 coats, plus the Flat or non gloss paints tent to fade to grey over time.

Edit: I am a painter by trade.

I painted mine blue (I'm a blue freak). I used eggshell, which gave it a little bit of shine, but not super glossy. It took several coats, as others have told you. I'm glad I painted it - I like it!
