I have a 14g Biocube with around 25lbs of live rock in it. I want to remove a hunk or live rock with xenias on it and put a "new" piece in its place (from the fish store). The xenia rock is approximately 2-3lbs and I'd try to get a piece or two equivalent to that. Is this safe for my tank? I have some zoas and mushrooms and a devil's hand also a watchman goby and a true percula.
Will it cause my tank to cycle? Would it be better to just remove the rock and not replace it with more? Thank you for the help

I would replace it with base rock. i wouldn't want to risk adding live, even if its fully cured at the LFS you can still have die off.

i agree with mr.goodsell. cant go wrong doing it that way , especially with the smaller water volume. thats asafer way to go about it.

Thanks, I didn't even think of that. That sounds good.

So removing the portion of live rock already in the tank won't cause a cycle then?

If I may ask, why do you want to remove the Xenia?

It's growing all over my rocks and I have some zoas sitting in the sand that I'd like to move higher up on the rock. I tried cutting down the xenias a couple at a time and each time it upset my the tank. They're really pretty I just wish they'd stop multiplying! Maybe I could get a coral that would contain them?

    They're everywhere
