Hello, I am upgrading my 29 gallon to a 55. I will not make the switch for a few months, as I will be moving across town in early June.

In the designing of this new tank I want to suspend some of the LR from the top to make a some sort of cave-type structure.;) I will stack the rock up to the top, but I want the rock to stick out further. I will drill into the rock with a masonry bit. What should I use to suspend the rock once drilled? What type of frame-work will I need to support this?:-/

I've seen this done before, but on a much larger scale. It was done in a several hundred gallon tank at an aquarium store in Columbus, OH, called Aquarium Adventure. But I do not know what they had to do to be able to support that much weight.

Try using acrylic rods if you drill into the rock

oh you mean to carry the weight of the rock. How much will that cost and where would I get that? Any Idea on what I should use as framework to support the rods though? I need some kind of bracing to go across the top of the tank.

Check out sign companies in your area for the rods.

You can get some square acrylic rods for bracing.

I seem to remember reading about someone doing this. If I remember correctly, they were afraid to let their new live rock touch the rest. They used fishing line.

That is definitely true. I think this will be so much different than most other aquariums, which is neat. I will post pictures when I set it up.
