So i just noticed a part of my tank is beamed by sunlight from a near by window, it lasts roughly 1h not even. Was wondering what you folks thought the consequences/ benefits of this were...

I understand now why i seem to always have an area of my tank with more algae to clean off the glass than others.

Benefits: looks like your corals are happy. :)

Consequences: that little extra algae to clean off the glass.

FWIW, the earliest reef tanks utilized natural sunlight as we didn't yet have adequate supplemental lighting systems.

I too have a beam of sunlight hit my DT certain times of the year- I had a thread on it, too lazy to look for the pic from it.

The sunlight is more colorful and intense than my current TaoTronic LED's though.
I'll have a newer/broader spectrum one soon, and will see how that compares.

Haha yeah, you know what they say, sunlight is the best! :) I actually let sunlight shine to my aquarium about 1 hour in the morning, just because i tell myself that my corals benefit from it (Not sure if its just a weird routine, but i've always done it with my planted tanks aswell) hehe :) But algaes LOVE sunlight, so i'm not quite sure if it will give any consequences in the tank itself, other than some algae on the glass and stuff. Have you seen any algae growth yet? I'm curious! :)

Barely any algae, there might be a concern in the summer in terms of temperature as suggested, but even then, though iv never closely monitored it, i dont think is an issue
