I have been searching for how many gph are needed per gallon of water.
I have seen anything from 400gph for a 150 gallons (120 gallon tank and 30 gallon sump), to 10 turn overs per hour(so 1500gph).

    What are your opinions?

I have a 75 gallon tank and currently a 10 gallon, but planning on upping it to a 20-30 gallon sump. So the pump I buy I want to be big enough for the sump I am planning on getting.

Tank is still in initial setup, been up for two and a half weeks, but still getting everything the way I want it.

Go with 10 times your tank volume. The majority of your flow will come from powerheads.

You mean 10x the sump volume, correct? This I would agree with.

Don't forget to account for head loss.

I was always told tank size. If you have a 90 gallon tank the pump should be 900 gph.

So would that be 750gph, 950gph, or 300 gph?

So are you hooking the 75 and the 10 together on the same sump?

the ten is the current tank I have setup for a sump, so once I find a 20 or 30 gallon tank i will make that into a larger sump and use the 10 for a fuge that will flow into the sump.

    Make sense?

Sorry I am a little confusing. NEW at this.
