    Hi,

I have attached a picture of a small piece of live rock that I have in my tank, there are loads of things growing all over it, however I am not sure which bits I may need to try and get rid of or be concerned about!

There is a couple of balls of bubble algae, any idea of the best way to get rid of these?

    Thanks again.

looks like palythoa but depending upon size of the picture, could be a zoanthid variety (mine extend like that sometimes). the bubble algae could be removed by inviting a emerald crab into the tank or (and a better idea) is to remove them one by one. be careful to not "burst the bubble" (pun intended) because spores will be released all through out the tank. however, they are fairly easy to remove.

a bamboo sish-kabob skewer cut to a chisel point makes a nice tool to pry off the bubble algea..

I think the algea bubbles do look kinda cool, it definetly adds to the appearence of the reef.

btw, that is one great looking rock, good score.

I was most pleased with my live rock, they all had a few nice things growing on them! I must admit the bubble algae does look cool, but I obviously don't want them to spread too much. I will give it a go and try to remove them.

    Cheers everone.
