So my brittle star(not green) I've discovered has developed a taste for crabs. The star has gotten huge and my hermit population has mostly been wiped out except for the huge ones. Starfish has got to go, but I was wondering If anything beneficial for me to add him to my sump. Would this help at all in terms of eating deitrus that may collect down there? Or would it decimate pod populations making no benefit?

I would think it would help if you have a detritus issue. You may need to feed the star after it cleans up the sump. It could be hard on the pods if it cleans the sump too well.

If it's been feasting on hermits, I'd suspect it wouldn't last long in the fuge.
