I'm setting up a new 30 Gallon mini reef tank. Looking at a heaters. Anyone ever use the stainless steel units ? Are they any good ? The unit I saw was:

    - is shorter than the glass unit
    - provides external temp control
    - is of course non-breakable...

    Any negatives ?

    Thanks !

Can't think of any off of the top of my head.  Do you have a link to a website that I could take a look at?

It's on page 2. The prices seem quite good.

My boyfriend uses on in his 75 gal. FW tank that looks very similar to that one...he is very pleased with its performance...seems very accurate...

I Have heard that they can get real hot and cause damage.. I can't say the source was a good one so I'm not sure how seriously to take it. On the upside, I like the external temperature control, size (smaller than the glass units) and the fact that it is unbreakable.

Just logged on and ordered one for myself.  "Nuff said.  Will add review comments when it gets in.  I especially like the fact that the temp control is out of the tank as my tank has completely encrusted my heater with coraline.
