After looking at Corailline's thread about fragging the Red Planet, i wanted to keep an SPS, but Acro's dont seem to do good under PC lighting. what are some examples of some SPS that wont brown out? i can place it pretty close to the lights (2" or so from the water surface)

They will do fine near the surface as you plan. Montiporas, pocillopora, stylophora and birdnest would be better bets.

My avatar coral was kept under PC near the top for several months and grew quite well. I had a Christmas tree rock that I kept toward the top and the porites that is the rock builder grew quite well also.

On that tank you should have no problem.

    +1 on the montipora suggestion

M confusa likes a lot of flow but does OK under moderate lighting IME
M digittata - IME did better for me when placed further away from intense lighting kept these low down under T5s and even under the shade of the wavemakers and they did well

and a moderately priced frag rather than a designer color variation (Superman etc) would be ideal to start with

im confused but im gonna guess and ask if that is because of the shallowness?

@2in10, ive always liked that picture :)

@steve, yeah i was planning to start as cheap as i can

one more question, for the monti's, does it matter if its tabling, encrusting, branching...etc?
