If all goes well, the swap happens today. I've been gathering materials and making lists for 10 days now. I'm going to give my chiller its first cleaning when I do the deed. You're supposed to use 3 gallons of water with a gallon of vinegar, running flow in the reverse direction for a few hours.

    I'll keep all updated.

So here's the sump ready for install. I created a glass shelf for the skimmer to sit upon, of 1/4" glass. It's beefy. I used a few PVC bushings for center support.

I'm planning on making the changeout today.

Good going so far. I just have one worry. This picture you show the valve on the inside of the sump to the input side of the pump right?? This is only for shut off and not to dial flow on the pump...correct? If you starve the pump for water you will probably burn it up. I always valve down the exhaust port of the pump. Keep us posted with pics and I won't have to turn you into Luna....where ever he is now days :-/

That's right, Scott. It's a shut off valve for pump maintenance only. It's inside the sump because it won't fit outside with the footprint of the build.

Out With The Old. . .

    The old.

    The new.

The chiller return (from chiller to sump)

Checking for clearance. The skimmer fits ..

The collection cup does too, barely. This one has a drain valve, so if it gets too full, I'll have to empty it while vertical on the unit before removing to sink.

whats nice about the drain port is you can attach 3/8" clear tubing to it and run it where it overhangs the sump in the front. the black plug fits perfectly in the tubing. I drain it outside the sump once a week into a big cup. everyother Im maneuvering the collection cup out to clean it.
