I have a Reef Octopus that's rated for 150-200 g. I have a 30 g system. I have to adjust the water level to where it is halfway up the collection cup tube to get any foam.

Obviously the issue is from an oversized skimmer relative to the bioload.

Do you think one rated for 75 g will work better or will I still face the same problem?

I used an Eshopps PSK-75H on my JBJ 28 with great success. I also use a PSK-100H on my 46BF, and again it works quite well. So I do think the smaller skimmer should work out for you.

While I agree that a smaller skimmer will work far more efficiently with a smaller tank, it will still depend on your bio-load. 3 smallish fish in a 30g system won't produce a lot of waste, then you also have corals that absorb dissolved organics. Unless you're feeding heavy, you won't get a ton of action from any skimmer IMO.
