I have a 55g tank and I am getting ready to bring my 29g sump online, but before I do that I need some help. I have to use a full siphon overflow because I have all tempered glass and I can not drill that. I believe I have figured out that I need to use at least 1" PVC for the 500gph I expect to be going through my sump. What I am trying to figure out is the linear overflow size needs to be 8" or more. How can I achieve this with my siphon overflow? I want to be able to hide the overflow in an overflow box but not sure how deep the overflow should be. Does it matter how deep in the tank I need to go with the piping? I know the inside bend it has to be equal to the outside bend. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Zman

Yes and no, I think LOL.

Have you seen the store bought HOB overflows?
Check thenm out and you may find the answers you seek.

Check out making a DIY one out of PVC also.

I ran a DIY HOB one on my 125 for years-
The way I designed it, it had 21" of surface skimming !
It can be done- there are many threads including some old threads of mine on it.
    Alternatives to a drilled tank.

IIWY- I'd look around your area for a used HOB siphon style overflow, etc.

    Good luck, and Reef On!
