I got a Flower Pot Gonapora (??) the other day, and all seemed to go well for the last 4 days. This evening I noticed it was all withdrawn and a brown goo or growth over part of it skeleton...but it looked great this morning...my soft corals are still doing great...but looks and sounds like the gonapora is dying....

    ph 8.2
    ammonia .20
    nitrites 0
    nitrates .1
    80 deg F

Cal was above 400 when tested at the LFS....

    any help, please?????

    TIA

No experience with these corals but I do know they are rated as advanced for well experienced reefers. Will look to see if I can find something specific on their care.

Unfortunately, as beautiful as gonipora is....I've heard it's best to stay away from it.....good luck with it though!

Just spoke with my LFS, and she said hard corals will emit a mucis (??) if they get unhappy :( ...

she said it wasn't dying yet(ummm....) but needed the mucis fanned off it and it to be moved out of direct water current..(heavy current on it now)....she thinks maybe my pump is over pushing the gonapora with water current....
    any thoughts on that??

I think it might be nitrates...Im gonna have a better test done today too...

    thanks all

Definitely move it to a lower flow area, as it can't hurt. Keep us posted.

Well, today I used my hand and fanned out the mucis stuff until it was a clean piece again. I added some Stress Zyme to help with my Ammonia and nitrate levels....

The gonapora seems to be out and alive again...

I also placed him dead center of my tank, where its a medium current. He's still blowing in the current, but not near as hard....

so I hoping it keeps up like this..its a beautiful little animal, I would hate for it to die this quick.......

    Thanks all
