I have a 75 gal. that has been up and running for over a year. Things seemen to be doing okay, I haven't added any livestock for awhile and everything seemed healthy until last night. I awoke this morning and both of my cleaner shrimp were dead as was my sally lightfoot crab. Any ideas what might have caused me to lose these all in the same night.
    Parameters are: S.G. 1.023
    Temp. 80F
PH 7.8 (usually runs about 8.4)
    ammonia .25
    nitrite 0
    nitrate 0
Any thoughts or ideas about this?
Oh yes, I did 25% water change 3 weeks ago.
    Thanks

Ammonia could be the cause or it may be the result of the deaths.
pH drop might be the cause.

How is the rest of your livestock doing?

    Do you dose anything?

Was that ammonia value after the deaths ?

Yes all the parameters are current. Everything else appears to be healthy.

No disrespect intended, but I hate that answer. I would like to know all the parameters in order to give you an appropriate response. I find more often than not that newer tank owners only test a handful of parameters and consider it to be “all perfect”.

And this is because people aren't aware of the other things to test for.
    I wish you luck here.

if you are dosing then i would agree with the alk one.
i had my own share last weekend and the culprit was my alk. raised it too high with the wrong dosage.

    Are you dosing anything?

Inverts can react badly to swings in pH, alk and SG.

I am curious, how do you know the shrimp is dead?- did you see a shell with anttena attached, or just a shell of what looks to be the shrimp? The low ph can indicate many things, did you do a water change or top off recently- did you test after the light were on a long or short time? Shrimp that are happy "molt" their shells, crabs die all the time- usually due to fish killing them.
