I'm setting up a 55 gallon saltwater tank and I'm wondering if well water is fine

Wouldn't suggest it. I had all kinds of algae issues when I used my well water. It's really not worth it. I quit the hobby for a year because of it.

What should I substitute for it?

Most people buy an RODI unit, or buy water from the store.

I use distilled water from Walmart and mix in Red Sea Coral pro salt mix.

ro/di. never know what is in the H2O coming out of that tap. usually leads to high phosphates and algae outbreaks.
