I have a 55 gal tank with about 35 lbs of sand like to add 10 lbs or so. I know I have to wash the sand well but is there anything I should be concerned about Amy affects it will have on my tank when I add sand?

Assuming it's an established tank, adding dry sand rinsed with ro/di,there should be no issues.I personally would not attempt to add "live" bagged sand as it would be sure to be filled with die off and possibly cause an ammonia spike and/or mini cycle.

I agree with grinder. Also get a Tupperware container and put the rinsed sand in it and slowly lower the container into the water and down to your sand bed. Gently empty it out and repeat until all of the sand is in place. This will help keep your tank from getting as cloudy.

Awesome tip. I will do that with the Tupperware.

Do I have to rinse with ro water. What would be the issue using tap?
