Has anyone noticed a pattern among four schooling or community fish? It seems to me that they group three and leave one out.

I have seen this in SW green chromis and in freshwater tiger barbs.

I'm cycling in both tanks but, as soon as I can, I plan to add another four fish to both schools. Does anyone know if schools of eight do better about keeping everyone in the school?

Chromis should be added to the tank in odd #'s. Not sure on the barbs though.

Using larger numbers will help keep everyone together. Schooling fish should really be kept in groups of 8 or more.
