Scallop or clam?

    we will have better luck if we could see the base.
    does it have coraline growing on it or is that its natural color?

    my guess tiger lucine.

    Yeah i still haven't found anything else on this. if the coloring is just coraline Then I would have to stay with my previous post; it is a soft-shelled clam.

    Lucines don't attach, and neither do soft-shelled clams.

    Wasnt able to get a pic last night, I'll try later this evening when I get home.

    It did attach itself and the color is deffiently not coralline. I'll do my best to get a better pic

    I noticed that you said you put some Florida Live Rock in your tank...well I might have found your hitch hiker :) I have one of these in my predator tank...its a type of clam found ALL OVER the Gulf of Mexico....I was snorkleing and brought one home to see if it would live..has been living for about 4 months now...when it opens up (only slightly) it has orange-ish tentacle things...it also has attached itself to the bottom of my tank via its bissel threads.....i think (minus the barnacles on mine) that is looks very similar to the pic you posted...then again I could be way off...lol take a look at the pics and lemme know whatcha think..

    ive kind of given up on taking pics, i tried to take some more, and they show up but their all just fuzzy and probably wont help with an ID

    Hi guys, I have exactly the same thing in my tank. Its a very small flat dark purple/pinkish shell with darker purple horizontal stripes attached to my zoa rock. I know this post is old but ill get a picture of it tomorrow. No clue what it is but very curious about it.

    Fish are friends... and food. Omnomnom.
