I have a coarse aragonite SB, if I get a Squamosa should I create a spot of fine sand or will it do ok in the coarser stuff?

What do you mean by coarse? What is the name of the substrate exactly. Should be fine no matter what it is.

It will do fine in either substrate. The main thing is providing ideal water parameters and suitable lighting(food), IMO.
